jesse keenan

Reverend Jesse L. Keenan, 92, of Follansbee, WV, entered into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Born on June 26, 1932, in Littleton, WV, he was one of eight children born to Jesse Lawrence and Bertha Antill Keenan.

After graduating from high school, Jesse honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956.

Following his military service, he answered the call to the ministry, and in 1962, he was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene.

For more than four decades, Reverend Keenan dedicated his life to serving others, ministering to congregations across McDonald, PA; Follansbee, WV; Masontown, WV; Beaver Falls, PA; Parsons, WV; Alum Creek, WV; Bruceton Mills, WV; Parkersburg, WV; St. Mary’s, WV, and Fairmont, WV. Even in retirement, he continued to serve his faith and his community in Follansbee, WV.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jesse never met a stranger, and his years in the ministry introduced him to some of the most precious people. His time in the ministry and his family were his life.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, of 65 years, Aline McNeil Keenan; his daughter, Audrey Keenan; his brothers, Howard, Elwood Dean, Larry and Rev. Robert Keenan; and his sister, Linda Cunningham.

He is survived by his son, George (Kathie) Keenan; his brother, Darrell Keenan; his sister, Beulah Ballard; his grandchildren, Jesse C. (Sherry) Moore, Kenneth (Amanda) Moore, and Kimberly (Eric) Holbrook; and his nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Reverend Keenan’s legacy of faith, kindness, and dedication to the ministry will live on in the lives of those he touched. His unwavering commitment to his faith and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family and friends will be received Friday 5 to 8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV.

A celebration of Reverend Keenan’s life will be held on Saturday at 11 AM the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene on Colliers Way in Weirton. There will be a time of visitation with his family one hour prior to the service.

Rev. Larry Barkley will preside.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Florence, PA.

  2. Candle Selection 2Reverend Keenan was such a wonderful person as was his wife. He treated us with dignity and respect just as he did everyone I seen him interact with. I’m proud to say he was the person who officiated at our wedding and blessed our first born by dedicating her. At least 32 years passed after he left the church before seeing him again and he remembered us and called us by name. I will never forget what a blessing he was in our lives. RIP Reverend 🙏🏻

  3. Candle Selection 2I worked with Jesse at Walmart. He was a wonderful person that made a bad day much better. Heaven received a beautiful angel today. He was a blessing to everyone he met. I can only imagine the celebration you are having my friend.

  4. I have known Rev Keenan and his wife for at least 40yrs and counted them as dear friends. I’ll meet you in heaven later.

  5. Such a kind and genuine man. He will be missed but our memories of him will always remain. My dad …Pappy Hinton is probably deep in good conversation with him about their fire department days . Heaven just gained one of the best.

  6. REVEREND KEENAN WAS SUCH A FRIEND TO MY FAMILY . GROWING UP IN FOLLANSBEE. NOTHING BUT A KIND MAN. SENDING MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO GEORGE, AND EXTENDED FAMILY.

  7. Reverand Keenan was the most Christ-like person I have ever known. All who knew him feels the loss of his wisdom, compassion, guidance, and true agape love. Rest now dear teacher. Your work here is finished but will live on in our lives.

  8. May the love of God surround you and your family during this difficult time,
May you come to know that the love of God is with you always,

May your memories of Jesse L. Keenan, give you peace, comfort and strength…

Rest now in the arms of our Lord your mission on earth is complete.
I thank you for your service to our Country and my Freedom. You will not be forgotten…
